The mean age (Age) of each sampled air mass was determined from the corresponding
ACATS measurement of SF6 and the documented tropospheric trend of SF6 [Geller et
al., 1997] using a variation of the mean age formula in Volk et al. [1997].  We
use dG = -0.8 to account for a SF6 calibration scale change. This term no longer
represents only a delay from the surface to the tropopause.  The mean age error
reported is solely based on the SF6 measurement precision and is thus useful in
comparing ACATS ages from different flights.  Absolute accuracy of the SF6
measurement and any systematic errors in the method used to calculate mean ages 
are not included.

Organic chlorine (CCly) was calculated from ACATS in-situ measurements of
CFC-11, CFC-12, CFC-113, CH3CCl3, and CCl4.  Contributions to CCly from CH3Cl and
HCFC-22 (measured by WAS) were calculated from their correlations with
tracers measured by ACATS.  Organic bromine (CBry) was calculated from
ACATS in-situ measurements of halon-1211.  Contributions to CBry from CH3Br,
halon-2402, halon-1301, CH2Br2, and CH2BrCl (measured by WAS) were
calculated from their correlations with tracers measured by ACATS using the
formula in Wamsley et al. [1997].  The total chlorine (TotalCl) and total bromine
(TotalBr) content of each sampled air mass was calculated from the documented
tropospheric trends of chlorinated and brominated trace gases (e.g., Montzka et
al. [1996]) and weighted with a mean age spectrum calculated by Hall & Plumb [1994].
Inorganic chlorine (Cly) and inorganic bromine (Bry) were calculated as
TotalCl-CCly and TotalBr-CBry, respectively.

CFC-11 was not measured. Total Cl and Br cannot be calculated.
