Each model has a different definition of land and ocean. Some models in particular use either coarse flux grids or correlation length scales that can put apparent land fluxes in the ocean or vice versa. There's no single way to handle these different definitions without some incongruity; we have chosen here to preserve total land and total ocean flux. As a result, some small artifacts are apparent in these graphics.
