GML Tropospheric Aircraft Ozone Measurement Program

Special Projects

Although vertical profiling at remote sites is our primary focus, the Ozone Water Vapor group has worked on many special projects and campaigns, often that profile ozone well into the stratosphere.

A 2B ozone instrument has been modified for use in the NOAA UAV Demo project in cooperation with the Halocarbons and other Atmospheric Trace Species (HATS) Group’s 2 channel gas chromatograph (UCATS). The Altair UAV platform is capable of altitudes above 50,000 feet, putting the aircraft well into the Stratosphere as seen by the high ozone concentration values in this plot.

These extra projects are often with other NOAA Global Monitoring groups, as well as external agencies. Complimentary constituent data are also measured by our most frequent collaborators:

A science-dedicated Gulfstream V is used for NSF/NCAR collaboration projects such as the multiple HIAPER Pole-to-Pole Observations (HIPPO) missions.

Our instruments have been included in the following campaigns:

In addition, we are currently collaborating with the CCGG Group and the Coast Guard based in Alaska and measure ozone during regular coastal patrols.
